The short & long of it
Short Version
I’ve worn a lot of hats — radio DJ, TV traffic controller, associate producer, multimedia project manager, and now content marketing specialist. Whether it’s writing copy, crafting strategy, or editing video, I help brands tell their stories in ways that actually connect with people and inspire them to take action.
The Longer Story
I’ve worked in media, in one form or another, for most of my life. At 16, I started my career as the self-proclaimed “Queen of Country Radio” at WNLB, a small-town country station nestled in the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. As hard as it was to give up that auspicious title—and a workweek filled with NASCAR, Mountain Dew, and Hank Williams Jr.—I traded the glaring spotlight of AM radio for a quieter, behind-the-scenes role at small- and medium-market television stations.
While I was patrolling airwaves, protecting both the viewing public and advertisers from awkward on-air mishaps, technology was rapidly changing the very definition of “media.” Drawn to the thrill of new opportunities, I left traditional broadcasting for the world’s largest privately held software company, SAS. There, I worked first as an Assistant Producer and later as a Multimedia Project Manager, learning not only about emerging internet technologies but also about content management, user experience, and usability. The first digital project I managed, America in Vietnam: Views and Voices, earned Technology & Learning’s Award of Excellence for Best Software in 2001. I went on to spend several years shaping Curriculum Pathways®, an internet-based interactive educational platform that delivered engaging, accessible content to classrooms.
I was just as excited about my work with Curriculum Pathways on my last day as I was on my first. But after 12 years, I traded my office badge for a passport to support my husband’s career overseas. In Barcelona and later Singapore, I began teaching small business owners how to improve their online presence—blending marketing strategy with the realities of language barriers, cultural differences, and even apartments that didn’t come with kitchens.
Today, I use that mix of broadcast, corporate, and entrepreneurial experience to help people understand how to use the latest tools to promote themselves and their professional endeavours with clarity, creativity, and confidence.
